New Restrictions For the Holidays

New holiday COVID-19 restrictions will begin in Manitoba on Tuesday, December 21 at midnight.

The restrictions are being put in place due to the government fears of cases spreading over the holidays, and of the new Omicron variant (which is currently stated by the World Health Organization to be more infectious and affects vaccinated people more, but is not as deadly), despite case numbers overall not rising in the province.

The new rules are:

• There can only be a maximum of 10 vaccinated people in any household, plus those living at the house indoors. For unvaccinated people the limit is 5, plus household members (anyone under 12 is not counted)
• Only 25% capacity for indoor public areas or 25 people where proof of vaccine is required
• Outdoor gatherings will have limits of 50 people or 50% capacity
• Gyms, movie theatres, libraries and museums will still have the vaccine requirements as well as a new 50% capacity limit
• Restaurants guests will only be served while seated and tables are allowed to only have a capacity of 10, while the restaurants themselves will have a 50% capacity limit
• Faith-based gatherings where proof of vaccine is required will have a 50% gathering limit
• Indoor and outdoor sports will not have tournaments. Games and practices will be allowed and spectators will be reduced to 50% capacity
• Large indoor events will be 50% capacity

Many people are currently unhappy with these new COVID restrictions, especially those who are vaccinated as they say they feel like they're still being punished despite being fully vaccinated.

The Manitoba Government previously stated on multiple occasions that once people got vaccinated there would be no more restrictions. People are now unhappy that the government is currently saying something different.
