Preschools

Preschool is an early education option for children ages 3-5 before they begin Kindergarten. Preschool usually is taught by a qualified teacher in a preschool, but some preschool programs are offered in day-care centres.

Research shows that children who attend preschool are better prepared for Kindergarten and helps with early development. They may be taught basic math, reading, writing, and other skills. They also have improved social skills due to socializing with other children.

Some of the activities children do at preschool include:

• doing puzzles
• playing with blocks
• painting and drawing
• reading books and listening to stories or poetry
• playing dress up
• music, dance and drama
• climbing and playing on outdoor equipment
• running, swinging and jumping
• using computers
• playing with clay, play dough, sand and water
