What is kindergarten?

Kindergarten is an early learning program that offers an introduction for children to school. Kindergarten is a time for children to learn about what school is like and have fun while learning new things.

Kindergarten is not legally required for children but almost all children attend kindergarten. every school division across Manitoba offers Kindergarten, and most children attend Kindergarten. Some Kindergartens operate the full day, every day, while many in rural Manitoba operate the full day, on alternate days. However, most of Manitoba's kindergartens operate on half days (9am-12am), five days per week.

Manitoba’s kindergarten is organized into six subject areas: arts education, English or French language arts, mathematics, physical education/health education, science, and social studies.
