Dorms

Prairie Tokki LV 10 21-12-01 566

Dormitories (or dorms) are rooms that are located on university or college campuses. They are small rooms to live in that are all right beside each other in a single building. You will often live with a roommate, though you can get single person dorms as well.

Dorms are convenient for schooling (as your classes are right there) and are great for building social lives as live right beside many other students! But they are often more expensive than off-campus apartments and are often smaller.

Here is a list if the pros and cons of living in a dorm:

Pros:

  • Get to have an active social life (there's always people around)
  • Will be better informed about school events, clubs, etc.
  • Close to everything (your classes, food, etc. will be right there in walking distance)
  • Don't need a car or to use the bus often (again, close to everything)
  • Less confusing financially (though it's probably more expensive you don't have to worry about paying heat, internet, etc. as it will all be included)
  • Won't need to do a lot of cooking, cleaning, and other chores

Cons:

  • Can be expensive (usually costs more than renring an apartment with someone)
  • Lack of privacy (people will always be around)
  • Can be loud in some dorms (sometimes the walls are thin)
  • Room checks (this usually happens once a month)
  • May not like your roommates or neighbours (who you'll often see)
  • Often have to share utilities (such as laundry, showers, washrooms, kitchen appliances etc.)
  • Rooms can be small
