GST/HST Cheques For You!

The GST/HST credit is a cheque given four times a year to people/families with low to modest incomes. This is to give them some form of financial aid. So, you can get a bit extra cash.

 

You can get your cheques by mail or by direct deposit.

 

 

Who can get the GST cheque?

A single person will get the credit if their income was $44,000 or less (before taxes). A married couple with 2 children would receive the credit if their family net income was $54,000 or less (before taxes).

 

You must be a resident or citizen of Canada with a social insurance number (SIN) in order to receive a cheque and have one of the following applies:

  • you are 19 years of age or older
  • you have (or had) a spouse or common-law partner
  • you are (or were) a parent and live (or lived) with your child

 

You also must have filed for your Income Tax Return the year before. If you are a newcomer to Canada and you want to get the GST/HST credit, send Form RC151, GST/HST credit application for individuals who become residents of Canada. If you haven't gotten the cheque, you have up to 3 years to claim it.

 

You can also get the GST cheque for your spouse, common-law partner, and for your children (under 19 years of age). 

 

 

How much money will you get?

The amount you will receive from the GST cheque will depend on how much income you make. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) calculates this based on your previous year's income tax returns.

When will you get your cheques?

You will get your cheques 4 times a year. You will get them on July 5 and October 5, 2021, and on January 5 and April 5, 2022.

If you do not receive your cheques on the scheduled day, wait 10 working days. If you still haven't got them then call 1-800-387-1193

 

 

When should you contact CRA?

You should call the CRA at 1-800-387-1193 and inform them if one of these things changes:

  • the number of children in your care change
  • You get married or divorced
  • Has a GST/HST credit receiver died?
  • You move to a different address
