School Days Off

Prairie Tokki LV 10 22-01-12 589

Students generally attend school for approximately 195 days during the year. It's usually every weekday on Monday-Friday from the beginning of September to the end of June.

There will be scheduled days off and 2 long breaks during the school year. The following is a list of the school days your children will have off and there will be no school.

Breaks

There will be a Christmas break that lasts for 2 weeks that will occur just before Christmas and the first week of January. There will be no classes during this time.

There will be a spring break that lasts for 1 week at the end of March and/or the beginning of April.

Statutory Holidays Observed

Holidays will also have no classes. The following holidays students will have no school are:

  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Remembrance Day
  • Louis Riel Day
  • Good Friday
  • Victoria Day

Parent-Teacher Meetings

There are a few parent-teacher meetings during the school year to allow you as a parent to speak with your child's teacher. There is usually a scheduled time to meet your teacher (for approximately 30 minutes or so). These metings mean classes will not be held during these times.

This usually happens on a Thursday night or a Friday during the morning. This may result in your child having an additional day off (if they have their meeting on Thursday). When these meetings occur will depend on the school your child is in. So you will need to learn the dates of these meetings from them.

Other religious holidays

Canada (and Manitoba) allows children from different religious faiths to have days off if it falls on a major religious holiday. Your child can have the day off to observe these holidays.

You WILL have to contact your school and let them know in advance that your child will be missing that day to celebrate these holidays. For more information on the topic click here
